About Us:

The Bi-Borough Libraries and Archives Service at Kensington and Chelsea is an exceptional place in which to develop your career. Working with our partners at Westminster City Council, we hold the shared ambition of helping every member of our community Read, Learn and Connect. This purpose underpins all that we do, as equality in society can be enhanced and driven by helping people develop a love of learning and improving their literacy, knowledge and skills. Furthermore, this service allows people to connect – and in the current climate, that has never been more important. Rising up to the challenges presented by the pandemic, we must therefore evolve in how we are engaging with people, and we must continue to raise awareness of our services so that we are capable of making a difference to the lives of those who need us most. It is within this dynamic and inspirational working environment that you could find a fascinating challenge.

The Role:

Working across both boroughs, you will be at the heart of our ambitions to provide exceptional library, digital engagement and virtual services to our communities. The pandemic has isolated many people and the importance of our services is heightened even more. Joining us at an important moment in time, you will increase awareness and use of our services by devising a bold overarching communications and digital engagement strategy that will be utilised by a team of around 250 people. You will nurture advocates of the service; improve the services we provide via our social media and increase the engagement and reach of our channels. We need to elevate perceptions above and beyond ‘just’ being a physical space in which people can browse books so, as a storyteller, you will connect people with ambitious ideas. Crucially, you will stay on top of emerging trends in digital and social media communications, and you will be capable of determining and delivering measurable metrics.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

This is an exceptional opportunity to drive the future of our services. In order to succeed in this challenge, you will have hands-on experience of working with communications colleagues to develop successful communications campaigns, with a proven track record in driving engagement and improving the reach of services. With an exceptional knowledge of digital communications, you will be capable of setting direction in engagement strategies for a large team. With exceptional writing and proof-reading skills, we will expect you to have a sharp eye for detail, and you will share our commitment to be always friendly, enthusiastic and inclusive. Above all else, you will be passionate about the value that library services can add to people’s lives, and you will champion our core purpose and vision.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description.

We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

We work in partnership with Hampshire County Council (HCC) who deliver many transactional services on our behalf. Although most communications will be from HCC, all selection and appointment decisions will be made by RBKC. Certain services are shared across more than one Council area to nearby neighbouring Authorities. This enhances delivery and reduces costs. Your recruitment information will advise if your remit extends beyond RBKC.

We will primarily contact candidates by e-mail throughout the recruitment process, please monitor your email junk / spam folder as our system generated emails may be allocated to these folders by your email settings.

We engage our staff with a variety of learning types including face-to-face and virtual learning because we want to ensure our staff understand our values and behaviours, grow their skills and develop their careers.
