At Essex County Council we're already making plans to ensure our long-term economic recovery. We're taking this opportunity to create a greener, more productive and fairer economy that is stronger and more resilient than ever before. Growing our economy means working with local businesses to help them take advantage of new market opportunities. It means attracting investment to improve digital outreach across the county, supporting hard hit businesses to recover economic prosperity, whilst encouraging their plans for the future, as we drive invest into the revitalisation and regeneration of key places. And it means helping the people of Essex to grow and develop their skills, ready to fulfil the needs of a vibrant new business economy, where local manufacturers and suppliers meet many of the county's needs.
About the role
With unemployment at a 30-year high, we face significant challenges, but we're determined to achieve a strong recovery where economic growth benefits every community in Essex. That means identifying the specific challenges faced by areas of deprivation and low employment and putting in place interventions to help overcome them. Operating across a number of projects relating to a specific locality, you'll carry out research, collate evidence, build relationships and foster partnership working between different organisations. These are roles that demand strategic, visionary thinking, but also rigorous evidence gathering and a focus on targeted, measurable outcomes.
With experience of translating a vision or policy into practical objectives, you are a credible, authoritative leader, adept at developing coherent programmes of work and with the ability to draw together all of the Council's activities in key localities. You will build great working relationships with local partners in those places and develop a deep understanding of how different functions and services can best work together, to maximise our impact and achieve better outcomes for local people
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
We're looking for people who combine creativity with the practical and analytical skills to make real change happen in our communities. You could have gained this experience in a research and analysis, consulting or programme management role, but you might also be a graduate with strong local insights, a passion for making a difference and a willingness to learn fast. We'll expect evidence of project management abilities and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve clear outcomes. You'll also need well-developed interpersonal skills to work with others from many different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
We're proud to offer an excellent benefits package to all our employees, including a local government pension, flexible working arrangements, generous annual leave and a range of discounts and loans. Find out more about our benefits here.
