Job Details

Royal Greenwich is proud to be a borough synonymous with first class modern services. A world heritage site, our communities are vibrant and diverse, and we pride ourselves on being a well-managed and well-run authority.

We have also recently published our first digital strategy. To make that strategy into a reality, we need to hire a new digital, data and technology team to join our existing skill set.

In your role as Senior Support Engineer, you will work with two other Senior Support Engineers to lead and assist the support engineer and mobile technology engineer functions. Day to day you’ll be creating the conditions for the teams to thrive, helping them out with complex problems and guiding them in how best to serve our 4000 staff with technology.

You’ll be the escalation point for the support of end user systems, including working with senior leaders and council members to hear and meet their needs. You’ll give technical guidance and leadership to the more junior members of your team, and use your own expertise to handle more complex incidents. You’ll own problem resolution for large scale incidents, identifying root cause and solution and be involved in key decision-making for change management.

You’ll also be part of our wider support function, working with the service desk, mobile support and infrastructure teams to solve complex problems.

We’re looking for people who balance technical skill with the ability to lead. You’ll be able to calmly deal with a range of complex technical problems when under pressure, to maintain good service levels. You’ll want to develop your team, helping them be the best they can be. And you’ll be able to translate technical language into plain English, so we can better help our staff.

We’re looking for kind, efficient people who are either in or want to grow into a senior role with high responsibility. You should be a positive person who likes to solve problems and develop yourself. You should already be an established engineer.

This is a great opportunity to join a thriving and passionate team. In return, we offer a range of benefits which include:

  • Annual Season Ticket Loan
  • Childcare Voucher Scheme
  • Learning and development opportunities to maximise your potential, including excellent apprenticeship opportunities at all levels
  • Reduced rate Gym Membership
  • Eyecare Vouchers
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Long Service Awards
  • Generous Annual Leave entitlement and
  • Excellent Pension Scheme
  • GreenwichCard which entitles you to discounts at local businesses
  • Employee Assistance Scheme including external counselling service
  • A range of flexible working arrangements
  • Staff networks

At the moment, the role will be 100% remote working. As the covid pandemic abates, we would like you to work partly from the office and partly from home.
