We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced conservationist to lead the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team, which is hosted by North Yorkshire County Council as part of its Growth, Planning and Trading Standards Team.
This is a job like no other – you will be part of a small multi-disciplined team working to shape the future of the Howardian Hills AONB. We are highly regarded professionals who are part of a larger network of Protected Landscapes teams.
Due to retirement, this is an ideal opportunity to join us and lead the AONB and its partnership into a new era of Protected Landscapes management.
As the Howardian Hills AONB Manager, you will be responsible for championing the conservation and enhancement of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (HHAONB) and delivering the aims and outcomes stated in current AONB legislation. You will act as lead officer for preparing and implementing the AONB Management Plan, work programme priorities and provision of advice as guided by the HHAONB Joint Advisory Committee (JAC). You will need to work effectively, managing relationships with a large number of partner organisations and the land management, residential and business communities of the AONB. You will manage the HHAONB service and budget effectively on behalf of the partnership and NYCC, constantly seeking ways to maximise conservation and enhancement outcomes for the AONB by identifying future trends that will affect the area and developing partnership and external funding project opportunities.
This is a Politically Restricted role.
What you will bring
To be successful you will need to have a degree or equivalent in environment management, rural conservation, natural or built heritage or a related subject. You will in depth knowledge of current legislation, policies and practices with respect to AONBs, working knowledge of appropriate land management and environmental techniques covering both natural and built heritage as well as knowledge of issues affecting, research into and best practice relating to protected landscapes.
