D-BIT

The Divisional Based Intervention Teams (D-BIT) have been operational in Children's Social Care (CSC) since early 2012. The service has a proven track record of improving outcomes for young people and their families and addressing areas where there are difficulties in the relationships that exist between family members so that young people can continue to live safely within their homes and family networks. These teams are a key element of the current Children's Social Care strategy to drive down the need for care placements, particularly for older children, and are working in partnership with a range of other innovative services to provide early help and intensive intervention across the spectrum of need.

There has been a rise in emerging and developing Mental Health (MH) and Emotional Wellbeing issues in children and young people both in Essex and Nationally. The most recent data suggests that 1 in 10 children and young people have some form of clinically diagnosable MH problem. A growing gap has also developed between the level of need and the capacity of services to meet need, particularly for young people whose needs are emerging, low level, or early.

The DBIT Emotional wellbeing team is an innovative pilot demonstration project. It will provide specialist Solution Focused therapeutic intervention to children and young people aged 8-17 who are experiencing challenges to their emotional wellbeing and/or mental health. The team will deliver sessions with young people where there has been an identified need for early intervention emotional wellbeing/mental health support, where the EWMHS intervention criteria has not been met or not engaging with the young person.

Over the course of the pilot project the team will also develop and deliver bespoke training across Childrens social care workforce in intervening with children and young people experiencing emotional wellbeing difficulties.

Solution Focused has a growing and established reputation in therapeutic intervention with children and young people and with those experiencing emerging and low-level emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties.

DBIT have become leaders in the Solution Focused field, both in interventions and also in delivering training both internally and externally, with this project further seeking to meet the growing need of children and adolescents in Essex currently suffering and struggling with emerging emotional wellbeing and low-level mental health issues.

Practitioners will each be aligned to and work within or across quadrants whilst coming together as part of the countywide team of practitioners supported by a Practice Supervisor and 2 mental health coordinators aligned to the project.

We are looking for practitioners with experience and knowledge of the Solution Focused approach, however this is not essential with full and intense training and support provided to Emotional wellbeing practitioners once in post.

This role with the D-BIT Service will require staff to work a basic week (Mon - Fri) but also to be able to work flexibly, which will include some evenings and occasional weekend activity.
