Full time permanent contract.

Democratic Services.

A vacancy has arisen for a Scrutiny and Governance Adviser to provide effective and high-quality support for the Council’s scrutiny function, and to promote community engagement and understanding of the democratic processes of the Council.

South Cambridgeshire is consistently recognised as one of the country’s top places to live and work, due to our thriving economy and quality of life. Our successful local economy is important on a national stage, and South Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.  The District Council business plan commits to growing local business, providing truly affordable housing, putting customers first and being “green to our core”. Green initiatives include an exciting £1.9million retrofit to our head office at Cambourne, where the role is based (except when working remotely) to dramatically reduce carbon emissions.

A Centre for Public Scrutiny review in 2020 observed provision of excellent and proactive support for the scrutiny function, and recommended building on South Cambridgeshire District Council’s strong, ongoing commitment to scrutiny. The successful candidate will support this goal, ensuring that scrutiny is effective and truly productive.

The role is within the Democratic Services team, in Corporate Services and includes deputising for the Democratic Services Manager.

As the successful candidate you will play an influential role in maintaining and further developing an effective and outward-looking scrutiny and overview function at the Council, through the provision of advice, policy skills, research and other support. They will have a dynamic approach, an excellent understanding of the political environment in a local government context and will enjoy working as part of a team whilst being able to manage their own workload with a minimum of supervision.

For an informal discussion about the role please call Rebecca Dobson, Democratic Services Manager, 01954 712 942

Closing date: 9am Wednesday 5 May 2021

Interviews will be held:  TBC
