We’ve been recognised nationally for our environmental focus and efforts to lead local climate change issues. We’ve had one of the UK’s very first electric bin lorries collecting our recycling for months. We help support one of the fastest growing economies in the UK. We’ve ambitious plans to Double Nature. Could you be the person we’re looking for to take our plans to put the environment at the centre of everything we do to the next level? We’re looking for an exceptional candidate to lead our work towards a cleaner, greener, zero-carbon future. The current post holder leads a high-performing service but is moving on to a new challenge, so you’ve some big shoes to fill.

You’d be employed by South Cambridgeshire District Council but also lead our Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service with Cambridge City Council. Never has the key role of our recycling and waste crews been more appreciated by residents, so it’d be your job to build on the success of this high-performing service. You will ensure it embraces innovation and new ways of working while delivering commercial opportunities, profit and value-for-money alongside a culture of learning, development and professionalism.

Hate fly-tipping as much as we do? Good. Because you’ll also be responsible for South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Environmental Health service. Plus, you’ll lead our Business Plan priority to be ‘Green to our Core’, inspiring and leading Councillors, colleagues and residents to tackle climate change on a very local level. You’d be the Lead Officer on our Climate and Environment Advisory Committee too.

Finally, you’d sit as Director of the District Council’s two investment partnerships which will see up to £100 million invested to support the local recovery, through regeneration and housing development.

We’re based in one of the most beautiful parts of the country but, as you’d expect, work more flexibly than ever.  We have a strong culture of teamwork, hard work, but – and this bit’s important – we also enjoy work.  Having fun matters and we take that very seriously!  You’d be joining a highly collaborative and supportive team, who are passionate about delivering great services, being innovative and making a real difference.
