Following significant investment into the Policy & Governance directorate, a number of vacancies have arisen within the Legal & Democracy Team, to include a Places Team Legal Assistant within the Legal Team.

The Lexcel-accredited Legal Team provides legal advice, assistance and support to council officers, elected members and external clients at all levels. 

Reporting to the Team Leader: Places in Legal & Democracy, the post-holder is responsible for undertaking a mixed workload including providing assistance to the Places Team Solicitors.

Major tasks include:

  • To support the Team Leader: Places in the delivery of high quality legal services to internal and external clients.
  • To support the Team Leader: Places, Senior Solicitor: Commercial and the Solicitor(s): Commercial in the management and provision of their workload of specialist advice and assistance in the following areas of law; Town and Country Planning, Highways, all areas of Commercial contract/procurement, regulatory matters and associated local government processes and decision-making.
  • To assist the Team Leader: Places with the provision of public of statutory services as required, in particular the administration of the Town and Village Greens registration service and the Assets of Community Value application scheme including receiving and processing applications, maintaining public registers in accordance with statute and assisting with formal correspondence and notices.
  • To undertake a caseload of matters on town and country planning, highways, and other matters that are straightforward and not complex in nature.
  • To provide advice, assistance and support to council officers, elected members and external clients including; advocacy, training, document drafting, attending meetings and providing written advice.
