We use a variety of contracts, from simple purchase orders to long-term contractual agreements. We use a category management approach, where related expenditure is grouped together, using data, to create a better understanding of our buying needs and of what supply chains have to offer.
Our aim is to source more strategically, be more innovative and enable Council service managers and commissioners to get the most out of the market and supply chains. Our approach has been recognised as award winning. Winning the Procurement Leadership of the Year Award 2019 at the GO Awards, being Finalists in the Public Finance Awards 2020 and being highly commended for Team of the Year in Local Government at the Procurement Go awards 2020.
What our team say about us:
"Life is interesting in the procurement and contract management team as there is such variety in the scope of projects being delivered and alongside this is a very supportive group of colleagues to help support you throughout." Patricia Murphy – Category Procurement Officer – Place
“The variety of work means that no two days are the same, which for me makes the role particularly interesting and gives me the opportunity to develop skills and experience across different areas of the Council”. Katie Longstaff – Category Procurement Officer – Professional
“The team has grown over recent years due to the increased focus and understanding which procurement and contract management delivers the organisation. Having both started our procurement careers with NYCC a number of years ago, through a supportive environment, we have both gone on to senior leadership roles within the service. The service values career development and investment in our team, offering CIPS training and qualification. We have an exciting few years coming up, where we are looking to expand the team and our service offer. It has been great to see our achievements recognised at a national level winning procurement leadership team of the year in 2019”. Rachel Woodward & Stacey Speakman, Senior Category Managers.
