Engineer transport change to make Hounslow cleaner, greener and safer

Join us as a Senior Engineer, and you’ll project manage the feasibility, design and implementation of traffic and transport-related schemes designed to make our network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. These could range from minor improvements to £multi-million infrastructure projects. Think charging points for electric cars. More bike lanes. A better walking network. Greater accessibility for those with mobility needs. It’s a role that will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities. Not least because you’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

Working with external consultants, Hounslow Highways and other council departments, you’ll deliver our traffic and transport-related initiatives and schemes on time and on budget – these budgets will be worth up to £3m. You’ll need to prepare concept and engineering designs at each stage of a scheme for peer review and public consultation. These designs must always be practical, meet with best practice standards and align with all of our technical, financial and administrative criteria.

With a degree in Civil Engineering (or similar), you’ll bring significant experience of delivering traffic and transport projects, ideally within local government. An excellent working knowledge of highway design plus traffic engineering principles and best practice is essential. You should also have strong project management skills – we’ll want to see a track record of managing complex projects, budgets and multidisciplinary project teams. As an excellent communicator, you’ll be adept at conveying information clearly and effectively with internal colleagues, our Councillors and the public.

In addition, we’ll want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can see our innovative projects through from design to delivery with flair and focus.
