City Solicitor and Monitoring Officer

Employer
Liverpool City Council
Location
Liverpool, Merseyside
Salary
£120,525- £125,766
Closing date
21 May 2021

Liverpool is an international city that needs little introduction. Our vision is to create a strong and growing city built on fairness. We are determined to ensure that the distribution of work, prosperity and opportunity is open to all and are committed to achieving inclusive local growth that benefits every citizen. To deliver this we have signed up with public sector partners to the City Plan, rethinking and redesigning how we deliver our public services.

Yet the City Council is facing challenges and we are embarking on the next stage of our improvement journey in response to the recent high-profile Best Value Inspection. We will not hide from the outcome of the inspection and the huge body of work it brings to rebuild trust with our staff, partners, and the public.

We are now looking to recruit an experienced City Solicitor and Monitoring Officer to join a dynamic team, determined to deliver at pace our improvement plan.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the postholder will be the Council’s principal source of legal advice, ensuring the organisation upholds the highest governance principles and standards. As one of the Council’s Statutory Officers you will be called upon to take difficult decisions requiring strong leadership and the ability to be a good team player at the highest corporate level.

Liverpool is in a period of change. Arising from the inspection we will be working with commissioners for 3 years. A new Mayor will be elected in May bringing the first change in Liverpool’s political leadership for over 10 years.

If you have the experience to take on a role as big as Liverpool, have a passion for serving the public and elected Members and a dynamic approach to problem-solving, you are the sort of person we are looking for.

For an informal discussion regarding the role please contact Jeanette McLoughlin, City Solicitor via email Jeanette.mcloughlin@liverpool.gov.uk and/or Tony Reeves, Chief Executive tony.reeves@liverpool.gov.uk
