Working in our highly innovative and motivated Development Management Team, apT, which offer both Local Authority and Consultancy services, our Ecology and Green Infrastructure Specialists are part of the approach to the provision of multi-disciplinary technical advice to support and drive the delivery of growth, lead in the provision of specialist ecological and green infrastructure advice across all council functions. To ensure the integration of biodiversity considerations into council policy and strategy, to provide specialist advice to the planning (development management) process and to lead on the mapping and classification of natural habitats.

apT Development Consultancy which is part of Telford & Wrekin Council, deliver planning services from a team which includes Highways Development Management, Ecology, Conservation, Healthy Spaces and Building Control. We deliver holistic and innovative solutions to all our customers. We are also visionaries in our field.

apT are the Midlands’ first public sector commercial planning, development and environmental consultancy who support developments through the regulation process, from the promotion of land to achieving consents, through to their safe completion on behalf of clients across the region including Shropshire, Cheshire and the wider Midlands.

You will be based in Telford - a destination of vibrant places and experiences where people love to live, work and play. Sitting in the heart of Shropshire, Telford is the gateway between the Midlands and Wales. Working alongside our busy Development Management Planning Officers and Specialists, the post holder will play a role in achieving the highest standards in the services we provide to the fast paced expansion of our Town.

Joining an experienced team, you will need to have the passion, determination and ambition to make a difference within Telford and Wrekin Council in order to deliver the very best for our residents, businesses and communities through an excellent planning service.

 

Applicants should :

Be educated to degree level in biological science or related subject
Ideally hold MSc in relevant subject (conservation, ecology etc)
Hold membership of appropriate professional Institute (Chartered Institute of Ecologist & Environmental Managers)
Be a member of the Association of Local Government Ecologists
Have strong data management and GIS skills
Be flexible to the demands of the role, working outside of normal office hours as and when requited to complete on site survey work.
Hold a full driving licence and have own transport.

 

Applicants should:
Be a Team Player with excellent communication Skills and attention to detail.

Hold a L2 bat survey licence (or above) from Natural England and would have considerable consultancy experience including having been the named ecologist on European Protected Species Mitigation Licences for bats.

Have significant experience of leading on ecological surveys for developments including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and detailed surveys for both European and UK protected species. Experience of UK Habitat Classification (UKHab) and using the Defra Biodiversity Metric would be a considerable advantage.

Experience as a consultee in the planning system from a Local Authority role is desirable, as is experience of managing sites for biodiversity and public access
