The Role

Homelessness Prevention and Solutions Officer. Fixed term contract.

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals with a good knowledge of homelessness and associated legalisation to join our Homeless Prevention and Solutions and Rough Sleeper teams.

The ideal candidates will have knowledge of homeless legislation (Part VII of the Housing Act 1996/2002 and the Homeless Reduction Act 2018) and experience of developing personalised housing plans. You will have had experience of working within a homeless/housing environment and managing a demanding caseload, carrying out assessments and investigations in line with legislation.

You must be able to investigate issues in a sensitive manner.  You will be conducting robust enquiries to establish the housing duties owed to applicants and developing personal housing plans to help keep applicants in their existing homes or help them find alternative accommodation options. This will involve negotiating with landlords, helping applicants find alternative housing options, identifying support needs and putting practical measures in place to find solutions for customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

You will need to be resilient and thrive in a high pressured, fast paced environment while managing a busy and demanding caseload.  Experience of assessing applications under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 is essential.

We have vacancies in both our mainstream Homelessness Prevention and Solutions Service and our Rough Sleeper Team so we are looking for candidates with experience of working across a wide range client groups.

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working including, working from home, compressed or part-time hours, term time only, job shares and other arrangements. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you’d like to explore. We also offer a generous holiday allowance of 39 paid days (pro rata) including bank holidays and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts with many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments.
