POST: Senior Principal Planning Officer (Major Developments)

HOURS: This is a job share post for 21 hours per week

The Royal Borough is seeking a dynamic and motivated Development Management Planner with a broad range of experience that is looking to take a step into a role with management responsibility. Greenwich is one of London’s high growth boroughs and this post in the Major Developments Team would suit a DM Planner with the capability to work on a range of applications of varying complexity including strategically important ones.

Professional
Prepare and present Committee reports for development proposals including major proposals of strategic importance, complex development issues, area development initiatives, or in areas of policy innovation.

Advise and make recommendations to the Major Applications Manager, Senior Managers and Members of the Council on matters relating to policy, regeneration and development issues associated with planning applications of significant importance.

Prepare statements, proofs of evidence for public inquiries and act as expert witness.

Prepare reports and make recommendations for decisions on planning applications to be determined by the Major Applications Manager, Chief Planning Officer or Director under delegated powers.

Lead negotiations on legal agreements associated with planning applications, in particular strategic applications, to ensure community benefits are secured and the Council’s regeneration objectives are met.

Managerial
Assist in the management, and direction of the Major Developments Team including the co-ordination of work and setting of priorities.

Deputise for the Major Applications Manager when necessary.

Assist in the recruitment and training of staff, allocation of work, and help agree targets, monitor progress, assess and implement training programmes and generally develop and motivate staff to perform effectively.

Take an active part in the management of Development Planning and undertake projects or functions at the request of the Major Applications Manager and senior managers.
