Location: Northallerton - this role can be homeworking with an expectation to work from County Hall or Selby on occasions.

Contract: Permanent full time

Hours: 37 hrs

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can provide support to the fee earners within the adults legal team with regard to a wide range of legal matters in relation to adult social care.

The Role

As Legal Officer you will assist in providing a legal service to the Council’s Health and Adult Services Directorate. This interesting role will involve support on a variety of different matters such as mental capacity and best interests, deprivation of liberty, mental health and safeguarding vulnerable adults.

To be successful you must:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of social care legislation and associated guidance
  • Have experience of working in a legal environment
  • Have good communication skills
  • Have a working knowledge of Court procedures
  • Be able to use legal research tools

Knowledge or experience of working in Local Authority is advantageous but not essential, we would welcome applications from the private sector.

The Legal Service is part of Legal and Democratic Services (‘LDS’) within the Chief Executive’s Group. NYCC provides a range of services to the County of North Yorkshire, and the role of the Legal Service is to support the provision by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to the Directorates, the Council’s Executive, full Council, Committees and Members, and external clients.
