Engineer (Highway Development Control)

Working with the HDC Manager you will be responsible for assessing the transport and highways elements of proposed developments to ensure there is no detrimental impact on our roads, safety, parking and the environment. You will also liaise with colleagues in the Highways and Engineering service to ensure that appropriate standards and materials are used and that improvements required by developers to mitigate the impact of new development are identified and implemented.

You may be required to attend Planning Committee on occasions and you will assist in the preparation of statements of evidence for planning appeals.

You will need to have political awareness and good communication and negotiation skills, as well as experience of working with elected members.

Due to the pandemic, the working environment has changed. The postholder will be expected to primarily work from home. The Council is currently reviewing its policy on returning to the office, but it is anticipated that office-based working will continue to be restricted for the foreseeable future.  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and keen to learn. Training will be provided.
