Job Details

Royal Greenwich is proud to be a borough synonymous with first class modern services. A world heritage site, our communities are vibrant and diverse, and we pride ourselves on being a well-managed and well-run authority.

We have also recently published our first digital strategy. To make that strategy into a reality, we need to hire a new digital, data and technology team to join our existing skill set.

As a Data Engineer, you will form part of our new data team, helping to build a full data capability so we can better tailor our services, make better decisions and understand more about what our residents need from us.

Undertaking significant engineering projects, you will extract, improve and combine data from back office and customer-facing systems to help create business and user value from data. You'll make sure that our data, and data shared by others is of the highest quality. You'll partner with other areas of the organisation, building data environments and pipelines that help them improve their services. In your own team, you'll be working with analysts and our data architect to make sure our data systems are secure by default while maximising sharing and publishing of data.

Using your applied knowledge of modern data engineering and visualisation tools you will ensure the best data technologies and platforms are used, including ongoing investigation, research and appropriate application of emerging technologies.

During the current Covid-19 response you will be working mainly at home; when the pandemic abates we would like you to work with a mixture of home and office-based working.

This is a great role in a vibrant and growing team; we're looking for experienced data engineers who want to join our user-centred mission and help to improve the whole organisation with data. In return, we offer a range of benefits which include:

  • Annual Season Ticket Loan
  • Childcare Voucher Scheme
  • Learning and development opportunities to maximise your potential, including excellent apprenticeship opportunities at all levels
  • Reduced rate Gym Membership
  • Eyecare Vouchers
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Long Service Awards
  • Generous Annual Leave entitlement
  • Excellent Pension Scheme
  • GreenwichCard which entitles you to discounts at local businesses
  • Employee Assistance Scheme including external counselling service
  • A range of flexible working arrangements
  • Staff networks
