Catering Assistant / Kitchen Assistant

ECC are currently looking for Catering Assistants for schools across Essex.

Do you have previous experience as a Catering Assistant or Kitchen Assistant?

Working as a Catering Assistant in a school kitchen you will be part of a team providing support preparing and serving food in the school canteen kitchen to the children. Providing a warm and welcoming catering service with the help from an engaging and helpful colleagues

Hours of work:

This are term time roles (Monday to Friday), varying hours.

You must be available to work Monday to Friday, on an ongoing basis (during term time).

Duties include:

  • Service of food / Preparing and serving tasty, nutritious and well-presented meals
  • Cleaning of premises and equipment
  • Cooking and preparation of basic food items such as vegetables, fruit, salads, sandwiches, toast and beverages
  • Working in the catering stores area, checking and putting away orders
  • Helping to wash kitchen equipment and dishes
  • Keeping dining areas tidy, clean and sanitary
  • Ensuring that the kitchen and associated areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene, including food and equipment storage
  • It can involve taking of cash, mainly via the use of cash tills

The Person:

Previous experience in a similar role is required. However, this does not have to be within a school or educational setting. Assistance with applying for required checks and clearance will be offered by ECC.

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • A real passion for food and an aptitude for following recipes
  • Great customer service skills and be very comfortable in a customer facing environment
  • Works well under pressure, and is comfortable in a very flexible, fast paced working environment
  • Enjoys learning new skills and has an enthusiasm for catering
  • Works well both on own, and as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation
  • Good communication and ability to follow instructions
