About Us:

Secure a better future for children with special educational needs.

People are central to every action taken at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). The wellbeing of our population underpins everything that we do, and as such, it is vital that we give children and young people the best possible start in life. The SEN Occupational Therapy team is central to this goal, as this bi-borough service (that we share with our colleagues at Westminster City Council) is tasked with delivering the specialist support outlined in section F of children and young people’s Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

The Role:

On a day-to-day basis, you will be out and about as you build exceptional relationships with a manageable portfolio of schools and teachers, and most importantly, the children, young people and families who are need of your support. You will work in partnership with children and young people their parents or carers and school staff, in order to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people across the bi-borough.

Striving to implement a coaching model with both schools and parents, you will have the scope to embed lasting change in how today’s SEN children and those of the future are catered for. Supporting the integration of OT principles into the curriculum, you will be a trusted advisor to school staff including Head Teachers, SENCos and Teachers as you identify training needs, create training resources and deliver online and in-person training to both staff and parents.

If you want to create pathways that will enable children to find their feet and make the most of life – and you would relish the opportunity to embrace the exceptional training and development opportunities that we can offer you – then you will thrive as a member of our talented and friendly team.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

This is a chance to make a tangible impact on children who have special needs to get the most out of their education. You will therefore excel in the team if you bring an adaptable and proactive approach to the role, underpinned by exceptional communication skills. With the capacity to engage adaptively with children who have a range of different communication styles and work in partnership with parents, teachers and other professionals, you will share our determination to always work as a team. You will have a great deal of autonomy in this role, so you will be capable of managing your own workload, and you will be highly organised.

You will also be capable of preparing insightful reports for annual reviews, so your written skills will be well-developed. On a practical level, you will be a qualified Occupational Therapist who is eligible for registration with the HCPC, with experience working in paediatrics. Ideally, you will have experience of working in schools, and you will have a well-developed understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.
