Essex is committed to taking ambitious steps to address climate action. The Essex Climate Action Commission has brought together a range of climate experts to advise the Council on the steps that must be taken to effectively mitigate the effects of Climate Change. Essex County Council (ECC) has committed £5m to start funding the recommendations made.

As part of the Environment and Climate Action function in ECC, the Energy and Low Carbon Project Development Officer will lead on a local level to take forward recommendations from the Essex Climate Action Commission relating to renewable energy. The role will require working across a broad range of programmes including renewable energy, domestic retrofit, community energy, net zero public estate and behaviour change. . The role will require close working with politicians, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, local businesses and local public sector partners to develop an action plan for renewable energy and low carbon investment.

Knowledge, skills and experience

With knowledge of renewable energy and climate change, experience of climate action planning and accessing grant funding, and an understanding of green finance the role will lead complex, multi-disciplinary programmes of work to take forward and -scale up our climate action programmes. The role demands a confident self-starter who can action plan, identify funding opportunities, and think creatively and commercially

The role requires an ability to identify where ECC can really make a difference, learning from good practice but also bringing innovative thinking. It will require leadership, an ability to build partnerships with national and local stakeholders, and an ability to balance strategic imperatives whilst focusing on delivery and building viable investment cases for renewable energy and low carbon infrastructure. It will require a passion for climate action.

As part of employment with Essex County Council should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate.
