Our Youth Service currently have an opportunity for a Youth Work Team Leader Young Essex Assembly

The Youth Work Team Leader (YEA) will work with the Professional Youth Worker (YEA) to facilitate and support the activities of the YEA that enable the mandated 'voice' of young people to be heard and enable the YEA 'Agenda for action' to be progressed to ensure the inclusion of all young people especially the disaffected and disadvantaged.

They will Support the development of the Members of the YEA (MYEA) to enable them to effectively progress their agenda for the young people of Essex. Provide them with appropriate support to facilitate their projects, activities, events and the election process.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that young people's voice is heard and represented in the work of the YEA
  • Encourage and enable young people to participate in a range of educational and personally challenging activities.
  • Provide access to information and personal support, which enables young people to develop the confidence and skills to become creative, active, and critical participants in the wider community.
  • Liaise with the YEA local link workers and support their local work.
  • Maintain and update the YEA website.
  • Comply with individual responsibilities for staff and young people, in accordance with work role, for health and safety in the workplace.
    • Represent the council effectively both internally and externally.
    • Establishing, and maintaining relationships with young people, the voluntary sector, communities and elected members to promote youth participation and youth voice as well as ensure the voice of young people in Essex is heard and represented
  • Promote the programme to ensure that opportunities are accessible to targeted groups/individuals and respond to individual and group needs.
  • To deliver or support the delivery of youth work programmes as may be required, to include residential experiences for young people.
  • Keep accurate and efficient administrative systems and record keeping
  • Ability to work in partnership across a range of sectors to support the identification of desired outcomes for young people.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level and accountabilities of the post as directed by the Professional Youth Worker.
    • Ensure Child Protection/ Safeguarding Guidelines (SET) are followed and that all concerns are reported promptly

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Qualified to JNC Level 3 (or equivalent) in Youth Work, or willing to undertake and complete this qualification within two years.
    • Excellent level of numeracy, literacy (GCSE A - C or equivalent or demonstrable experience) and ICT.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with young people (including health and safety, safeguarding and face to face work with young people including event planning).
  • Ability to build relationships and relate to young people, partners, and elected members.
    • Effective team working skills.
    • Experience of effective use of resources.
    • Ability to work in partnership to identify young people's priorities and plan outcomes for young people.
    • Effective in time management and good organisational skills.
    • Ability to motivate young people and facilitate young people's development and learning.
    • Ability to develop work with young people and partners to achieve planned outcomes.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
    • The job role requires you to be mobile throughout the county, access to a vehicle or another efficient mode of transport will be required
