Telling Brent’s story and improving lives

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

Work closely with the Head of Communications, Conference & Events and the Media & Campaigns Manager you will play a key role in developing, delivering and evaluating integrated corporate communications campaigns. We have a great story to tell in Brent and we are looking for a talented Communications Account Manager to join our award-winning team.

As Communications Account Manager, which is Brent’s equivalent of a Senior Communications Officer, you will lead on the delivery of part of our integrated corporate communications strategy. You will proactively manage all communications requirements within a defined portfolio area from writing news stories, social media content and producing short videos to devising crosscutting, audience-led communications plans which affect positive behaviour change. You will build excellent working relationships with colleagues providing senior councillors and officers with communications support and advice to enhance the council’s reputation.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing team. The role requires someone with a high degree of personal responsibility and you will be encouraged to come up with your own creative ideas and bring them to life.

The Person

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of delivering results in a fast-paced media or marketing communications environment with a proven track record of building relationships with, and gaining the trust of, senior managers and councillors.

You thrive on developing and delivering creative communications campaigns, based on hard evidence, which help improve local people’s lives.

You will be experienced in creating great communications using a mixture of traditional and digital communication methods – including social media and short videos. You will be experienced in identifying and tackling reputational threats while pouncing on opportunities to generate positive headlines and pitching proactive news stories, which tell Brent’s story, to regional and national press.

If you are keen to work at the heart of an ambitious and forward-looking council, dealing with high profile issues and making a positive difference every day, Brent’s communications team could be the place for you.

Closing Date: 23 May 2021 (23:00) - please note this date has been extended
