"We’re constantly pushing ourselves to do better for children, young people and their families.”

These are the words of our new Executive Director of Children’s Services, Rachael Wardell the latest addition to our leadership team here in Surrey. We are determined to provide the very best for every child, ensuring good is good for everyone. To do this, we are seeking to appoint a new Service Manager to lead our educational effectiveness and school improvement services.

Whilst the majority of our children and young people have a great start to life, vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Surrey do less well than their peers in terms of education. In this role you will be committed seeking out creative opportunities to do things differently to inform and promote high quality, inclusive practice across our educational settings.

As the contract lead for the council’s joint venture company, Schools’ Alliance for Excellence (SAfE), you will work to ensure our statutory duties are delivered effectively and work in partnership to address concerns within our system to drive school improvement.

In leading our Early Years, Statutory Assessment and Alternative Provision teams, you will play a key role in leading collaborative change across our County education system, working together with our key partners. You will also be a key member of the Schools and Education Safeguarding Forum.

With children and young people at the heart of what you do, you will lead on key strategies across our education system to secure the best outcomes possible.

About you

We are looking for teaching qualified education leaders with a demonstrable track record of delivering and sustaining school improvement. You will understand the relevant legislative frameworks for children across early years, key stage one and two statutory assessment and both knowledgeable about, and committed to, safeguarding.

To succeed in this role, you will be a natural collaborator and system leader that is willing and able to build upon our well-established partnerships, ensuring there is collective focus and accountability on improving educational outcomes. Credibility is key, and so you will be comfortable working with school leaders; governors; parents; and senior staff from agencies such as the DfE.

Surrey is a place where you can make a personal impact to the lives of children and young people. By contributing to the creation of a positive and welcoming culture you will inspire and nurture the mix of professionals under your care to strive for continued and sustained progress across the range of educational and learning support services we provide.
