Asset Information Searches Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join Cambridgeshire County Council’s Asset Information Searches Team. Our team manages the legal record of the road network within Cambridgeshire.
We have a busy portfolio dealing with enquiries from the public, colleagues, partner authorities and other stakeholders. Our role is to ensure that the Highways Service knows what it has to maintain, to investigate and advise our customers on the highway extent, to support transport developments countywide, and to provide guidance on issues related to highway law and related processes. Do you have the right skills to keep our records up-to-date, to interrogate source materials, and to deal with a busy in-tray of queries whilst representing the public interest?
Successful applicants will demonstrate commitment to team working to ensure our continuous incoming queries are answered accurately and on time. A methodical and thorough approach to working is needed to help manage the Council’s highway records and street gazetteer, as well as the ability to liaise knowledgeably with other service colleagues, stakeholders and the public about a range of issues and processes.
Highway records and legislation can be detailed, so you’ll be a quick learner with excellent organisation and an appetite for professional development. As well as managing a caseload of enquiries from the public, you’ll be working on records management projects, in-depth highway boundary investigations, applications to stop up highway rights and support major transport scheme development. You’ll work in a stimulating environment to protect the highway network, to contribute to significant highway development projects, and to play a part in the national agenda to improve spatial data related to public assets.
You should have strong map reading and interpretation skills, and a determination to find the right answers to complex questions. A high standard of written and verbal communication is essential. Previous experience of working with highway records, asset management, historical documents, surveying, relevant legislation or experience of digital mapping is desirable; however on-the-job training will be provided.
Please note that although based at Huntingdon, the post-holder will be expected to travel around the county as required. The County Council’s usual flexible working arrangements apply.
