Head of Regeneration and Economic Development

Employer
Swale Borough Council
Location
Sittingbourne, Kent
Salary
£73,008 - £85,412
Closing date
28 Jun 2021

Two-year fixed term contract

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced regeneration / economic development professional to play a central delivery role in an organisation with ambitious projects to deliver. The role's remit includes:

  • Regeneration Services
  • Economic Development Services
  • Culture and Tourism
  • Skills and Infrastructure
  • Property Services (Including Health and Safety)

You'll provide clear leadership and direction to project teams to ensure that regeneration projects reach agreed milestones, supported by regular progress reporting. A breadth of professional perspective will enable you to effectively manage the symbiotic elements of Economic Development, Culture & Tourism and Skills & Infrastructure. And you'll work closely with our Head of Property Services to successfully deliver the Council's asset management strategy.

You'll have the opportunity to play a lead in role in a number of key, high profile regeneration projects. These include initiatives in each of our main town centres; redevelopment of some of the Council's own property assets, including Masters House in Sheerness and the Council's own HQ; and more expensive regeneration initiatives in the Thames Estuary area.

Supporting our communities in post-pandemic recovery will be an immediate priority in terms of economic development work. The borough has much to offer investors, and you'll work to ensure that we attract the right kinds of jobs to the area, and that we have a clear action plan in place to ensure we have the right skills base in place to maximise these opportunities.

Your professional track record should clearly demonstrate a breadth and depth of expertise in regeneration, economic development, environmental and community services. You'll have a clear sense of how to translate strategic aspirations into action on the ground. You'll need accomplished people and project management capabilities, that enable you to get the best from others while being clear on expectations and quick to address issues that hinder progress. It's important that you are politically astute and can manage the scrutiny that comes with this portfolio appropriately - investing the required time in stakeholder and member engagement, and ensuring that community engagement is an integral part of our work.
