Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking an ambitious and visionary public health professional to take on a broad portfolio of services as Assistant Director and member of the council’s leadership team.

Small but mighty, Stoke-on-Trent City Council has a compelling vision for the city, central to which is delivering better health outcomes for residents. Our residents face many challenges from a public health and broader wellbeing perspective, and addressing those challenges is one of the City Council’s key priorities, especially as we look to help our residents and economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reporting to the Director of Adult Social Care, Health Integration and Wellbeing (statutory DPH and DASS), you will act as Deputy DPH taking on a key strategic and corporate leadership role focused on reducing health inequalities, driving initiatives to enhance population health and promoting wellbeing across the Council ensuring that public health and wider corporate priorities are aligned. You will support the delivery of our Stronger Together vision, and our Health and Wellbeing strategy.

Alongside public health, you will also be responsible for a broad portfolio of services that support wellbeing and public safety including epidemiology and intelligence, bereavement care, leisure services (including museums and archives), environmental health and trading standards. Crucially, you will work closely with colleagues in children’s services to achieve improved health outcomes for our children and young people.

We welcome applications from both established Deputy Directors of Public Health and those at Consultant level who have the experience to step up into a post at this level. Of greatest importance will be your ability to lead a large and diverse team, promoting integrated solutions and systems thinking, and a track record of delivering improved health outcomes.
