City of York Council are seeking to recruit an apprentice welder within the wider blacksmiths/highways team
This post will contribute towards the provision of an efficient and effective service/team in highway metalwork repairs and installation work within a highways environment, as well some workshop fabrication through the training, knowledge and skills development
During your time with us, you will be working towards a General Welder level 2 apprenticeship which will include in procedures such as MIG(Metal Insert gas)TIG (Tungsten insert gas)/ SMA (Shielded metal arc)

You will require drive, enthusiasm, good inter personal skills, be a good communicator and have the ability to learn all attributes of the role within a small friendly team.
You will work alongside our team and will assist with:
- the maintenance, repairs and installation of highway metalwork assets including signs/sign posts, guard rails, fencing, barriers, gates, walkway hand rails, minor vehicle repairs etc.
- the installation of new and repaired or fabricated highways metalwork assets using a full range of installation materials and techniques
- routine checking and testing of all types of welding equipment including gas bottle regulator valves/torches/bottles etc
Fixed Term for 18 months
As part of our recruitment process, you will be asked to complete an on-line assessment in English and maths with East Riding College prior to being invited for an interview.
