Job Details

We’re seeking an experienced Assistant Web Officer to design, create, code, edit, and manage, visually appealing websites, content and functionality, that features user-friendly design and clear navigation, compatible with a variety of browsers and platforms.

We have a vision to put residents first, by providing a high quality and responsive services that use modern technologies, to ensure we’re always open and available to everyone.

The Web Services Team manages the council’s growing online offer, as customers move to engaging with us using digital media. We want to increase the availability of web-based services and continue to develop our websites to ensure they are easy to use, accessible, more customer-focused and an ‘open door’ to other services, whilst remaining secure and meeting privacy, usability and accessibility laws.

You’ll have the opportunity to work in a changing, dynamic and growing environment. You’ll play a key role in supporting and moving forward future developments online, while ensuring guidelines regarding brand, style, usability, accessibility, security and privacy are followed, in the corporate CMS (Jadu) and other applications.

This is an exciting time to join the Web Services team; in addition to regular responsbilities of the role, the post holder will have the opportuntity to be involved in project work, from supporting customer service implement new CMS and CRM technologies, to working with services areas to develop specialist sites.

The successful applicant will have:

  • knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques
  • confidence in communication, and an ability to express complex ideas concisely and in a way that is accessible for people of all abilities
  • demonstrable prior experience in writing for the web, and digital design using image/audio/video/graphics software for online content production
  • knowledge of modern web UI/UX patterns, typography, layout and digital design processes with a portfolio of work showing continuous improvement
  • working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 with strong ‘clean code’ writing skills with a high attention to syntax accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • creative flare to create compelling and engaging user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX)

Knowledge of local government services would also be beneficial.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
