Birmingham Careers Service provides impartial careers information, advice and guidance to young people aged 16 to 19 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), (extended to age 25 for young people with SEND needs). We work with internal and external partners to support some of the most vulnerable young people in the city. Our work with NEET young people is delivered at community venues such as libraries and youth centres, although the skills to offer telephone and other remote support are vital to the role. We also deliver a traded service in schools who choose us as their preferred supplier of careers advice and guidance. We work with a wide range of educational settings including schools with sixth forms, special schools and alternative providers. Due to its excellent reputation, our traded service continues to grow as demand increases. We have a number of posts delivering careers advice and guidance in both our NEET and traded teams. The pandemic has meant our service has become more dynamic and embraced new ways of working. We welcome applications from candidates who share this positive and flexible approach.

We are inviting applications from self-motivated individuals with experience of providing personalised careers guidance in educational and/or community settings, to young people between the ages of 13-19 (up to 25 for young people with SEND needs). You will be able to demonstrate experience of providing careers guidance using different models and approaches, including both in person and digital delivery. You will have the skills to engage and quickly build rapport with young people and a passion for supporting and motivating them to achieve their potential. You will be able to demonstrate you have the skills to accurately record your work and produce quality documents/paperwork as per the requirements of the different contracts and programmes we deliver .Planning, organising and monitoring your own work in order to meet deadlines and achieve individual, team and service targets will be central to your role. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a proactive and solution focused way will be key to your success.

You will hold a qualification in Careers Guidance at Level 6 or above. We are looking to recruit a number of people who have experience within this profession, particularly around working with NEET young people, delivering in schools and working with young people with SEND needs. We welcome applications from newly qualified advisers who have gained experience through the requirements of their course, and are keen to further their skills in these areas.

We are looking to recruit professionals who have experience of and are able to demonstrate how they have provided quality personalised careers guidance to young people between the ages of 13 -19 (up to 25 for young people with SEND needs) in educational and or community settings. Experience of being able to provide guidance using different models and approaches, including both face to face and remote delivery via digital platforms is essential. Interacting with young people, planning and recording delivery whilst challenging and motivate young people to enter or remain in learning is a key to being a success within the role. Proven previous skills and experience around planning and delivering group sessions and presentations to a range of audiences, planning, organising and monitoring your own work in order to meet deadlines and achieve individual, team and service targets is central to the role. Your proven experience of working both independently and as part of a team in a proactive and solution focused way including the use of a range of ICT and digital platforms is a skill that will be required on a daily basis within this role.
