Improving Brent Cemeteries

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

Brent has recently brought back in house its cemetery service and as a result is refreshing how the service is delivered and making improvements to the overall experience of the users.

As well as being a cemetery for families to lay their loved ones to rest and for them to visit, mourn and reflect, these are also valuable green spaces used be a variety of residents and visitors. Brent is committed to supporting an enabling sustainable greener environment and our cemeteries will play an important part in this.

The cemeteries officer post will be an experienced, qualified grave digger and grounds person that will, as part of a team, provide burial services throughout Brent

The Person

The person will need to have undertaken all relevant training in grave digging, shoring, using machinery and maintaining grounds that includes application and the safe use of pesticides.

There are significant seasonal pressures that mean you must work as part of a team to ensure timely grave digging and ongoing maintenance of the grounds. Therefore good communication and a willingness to go the extra mile to achieve outcomes and support colleagues will be essential.

You will also need to be a hands on in wider cemetery work such as cleaning of buildings, roads, litter picks and managing waste. Being flexible and having pride in your work is critical. Also being prepared to take part in an out of hours rota for locking of cemeteries and occasional weekends to support burials and seasonal requirements.

Closing Date: 5 July 2021 (23:00)
