This is an excellent time to work within Rotherham. We are passionate about the place and the people who live, work and visit here. We are delivering major regeneration and housing, as well as creating new jobs and opportunities for our residents. Rotherham is a real 'central UK' location with excellent road and rail links and is ideally placed near the scenic countryside of the Peak District, whilst also being conveniently located next to the vibrant city of Sheffield.

Our vision for Rotherham is that we come together as a community, where we seek to draw on our proud history to build a future we can all share. We respect decency, dignity and seek to build a town where opportunity is extended to everyone, where people can grow, flourish and prosper, and where no one is left behind.

We offer an excellent pay and benefits package which includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as a range of health and wellbeing and other benefits. This makes working for us an attractive proposition.

Due to the stepping down of the current postholder we are recruiting for an Assistant Director of Housing which will help us transform the borough by helping to deliver decent homes so that people can achieve their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.  We are looking for someone who has achieved significant success at a senior level and can drive forward one of our highest corporate priorities for our 20,000 homes. The postholder will be strong a collaborator with experience of working with residents, politicians and partner organisations and leaders who can drive strategy, whilst keeping an eye on the detail, driving performance improvement and creating an empowering culture for staff.

The role sits within the senior leadership team within the Adult Care, Housing and Public Health Directorate.

As the Assistant Director of Housing, you will be responsible for the safety and maintenance of our homes, overseeing a large scale capital investment programme, a busy repairs service as well as developing our approach to reshaping the service and investment around new regulatory requirements for building safety and developing the roadmap to achieving net zero carbon in our housing stock.

This is an opportunity for you to take a transformational approach to Housing, through actively engaging, communicating and influencing decision making within the council, across partners and with residents as well as playing a pivotal role in the delivery of the Council’s visions.

You’ll be an ambitious experienced senior manager, with a demonstrable track record of delivering improvements and results whilst bringing energy and passion to the service.

You will also hold a positive personal and organisational profile, formulating, leading and implementing successful strategies and programmes that cross service or professional boundaries and provide integrated service outcomes, including providing strategic advice within a statutory framework and experience of applying risk management in setting strategy and in identifying and managing principal risks to achievement of objectives whilst having a thorough understanding of the legislation, issues and agendas facing local government.

So, if you want to work in an innovative, honest and straight-forward culture, managing change to improve outcomes for the people of Rotherham, we would love to hear from you.
