Executive Director: Education & Children’s Services

Employer
City of Edinburgh Council
Location
Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh
Salary
£161,247
Closing date

Edinburgh is a city brimming with potential and talent. We are committed to doing all we can to make sure that every young person in our city has every chance available to them to make the most of their abilities and prosper. We’re already achieving a great deal but we know we need to do more in terms of closing the gap in attainment, and supporting more vulnerable children to succeed.

As the Council’s Chief Education Officer and part of the corporate leadership team you’ll play a vital role in connecting our overarching priorities for the city to effective and measurable delivery mechanisms on the ground. There is extensive good practice on which to build – the emphasis for this role will be on defining the difference between ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ and putting in place the actions that can make this aspiration a reality.

It’s a role that demands an accomplished track record in Education and Children’s Services; an informed understanding of the current and emerging agendas; and an appreciation of how these manifest themselves within a diverse, urban environment. You’ll have the professional and personal presence to quickly win confidence and trust from key stakeholders: elected members, school leaders and the community, and the leadership skills that enable you to get the very best from our committed workforce.

This is a leadership role that comes with a national profile and for the right person who can offer the right blend of corporate leadership and service expertise it will undoubtedly be a career-defining opportunity.
