We have several ambitious projects underway and many more planned. We need talented and experienced Team Leaders to deliver our programme of works and drive forward these key infrastructure projects.

About the role

Buckinghamshire Council has exciting opportunities to work on highways projects to support the growing economy and population of Buckinghamshire.

We’re recruiting for Team Leaders to work within our Highways Infrastructure Projects team. The team is delivering a range of highway improvements such as complex dual carriageway link roads, junction improvements & town centre regeneration, and have a significantly expanding order book of projects with complex funding arrangements that we need you to manage. We’re keen to bring on board professionals with experience of delivering link road projects and ideally with NEC contract management and PRINCE2 project management skills. Additional skills such as navigating a project through planning and knowledge of transport modelling are also beneficial.

The projects we deliver are challenging, complex, interesting, and provide real benefit to Buckinghamshire’s residents and businesses.

Working closely with the Head of Highways Infrastructure Projects, your role will be to programme manage a range of projects and line manage a team of project managers to deliver projects on time and to budget. You’ll also act as the ‘customer account manager’, receiving initial contact from clients regarding new projects and acting as a point of escalation. You’ll be required to lead on the production and delivery of project documentation, monitor budgets, prioritise resources, as well as establishing Programme and Project boards with clearly set governance and accountability throughout the project.

About you

You’ll come to us with substantial experience of managing capital highways projects, as well as leading and directing multi-disciplined project teams and groups working on major projects across a range of diverse professional disciplines, Council directorates and stakeholders.

With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll be experienced in partnership working, which will enable you to develop relationships with key partners in delivering our programme of work. With demonstrable experience in project, financial and contract management, you’ll also have the ability to support the preparation of tenders and contracts.Highly organised and IT-literate, you are an experienced project management professional.

You can co-ordinate partners, contribute to (and ideally manage) virtual teams and work with stakeholders, drawing on your strong communication skills. Well versed in standard MS Office and MS Project software, you are also a capable financial manager, ensuring your projects don’t go over budget or deadline.

Experience of highways projects and commissioning of consultants along with knowledge of Prince 2 methodology is desirable, and you will have a determined, can-do approach, committed to success.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, a recognised formal project management qualification would be highly desirable for these roles.
