About Us:

Leading the way in preparing for new building control regime.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious Council Plan which sets out our priorities for the next four years. It is directly shaped by the Council’s biggest ever ‘conversation’ with residents and puts community involvement at its heart.

Following the Grenfell enquiry, Kensington and Chelsea understands the opportunity, as well as the necessity, for positive innovation and change. In particular, we are reviewing the management of our property portfolio to prepare for major new legislation and to ensure rigorous compliance with building regulations.

The Role:

Against this challenging backdrop, you will lead and manage a team of surveyors, engineers and technicians to deliver an effective Local Authority Building Control Service. There will be a particular focus on supporting the Council’s ambitious new homes programme as well as the Council’s rolling programme of housing refurbishment, but you can also expect to lead on commercial buildings, enforcement of unauthorised works, and support delivery of the dangerous structures service. However, this is more than just a technical role: you will also review team performance, and coach and mentor staff to ensure they achieve registration and accreditation with the new Building Safety Regulator.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Experience of working in a complex regulatory environment within the construction sector is essential, so you’re likely to have a background working for a Local Authority Building Control Body or an Approved Inspector in a high level technical role. Knowledge of the particular challenges of high-rise residential properties would be an advantage. Holding a relevant professional qualification and a full member of either RICS, CABE, CIOB, IFE, ICE or IStructE, you’ll also be a Level 6 LABC Building Standards Fire Safety Specialist (or equivalent). The ability to translate technical expertise into the running of an operational team is also vital, so you’ll also need to have the skills to inspire and motivate others to high levels of performance.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s alone will not be considered for this role.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applicants.
