Care and Quality

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

In response to the growing demand for our low cost Funeral Service and increasing numbers of Public Health Funerals, Brent Council has developed its own in house Funeral Service, which has seen a steady and growing demand. We now need to expand the team to meet the future needs and further support a 24/7 service.  We are looking for someone who is passionate and wants to make a difference.

The Funeral Operative will support the Funeral Service in a range of areas. This includes taking people into our care (includes out of hours), driving funeral vehicles so you’ll need a full driving licence, bearing at funerals and helping to keep our premises and vehicles in an excellent condition

The Person

The person will need previous experience in the same or similar role. You will need to be of a smart appearance and demonstrate a commitment to care and respect for those in our care and their families.

You must be prepared to work unsocial hours and be on the on-call rota duty team.

The person must be flexible with their time to meet customer needs and able to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and lowering coffins and working in all weather conditions.

Although the post has unpleasant elements, the role can be highly rewarding and there can be great job satisfaction from confidence of the job well done and the thanks from families.

Please ensure you complete the application as fully as possible as incomplete applications will not be moved on to the next stage.

For an informal chat about the role and its responsibilities, please call the funeral service on 020 8937 2390 and ask to speak with Alex.

Previous applicants need not apply.

Closing Date: 2 August 2021 (23:00)
