City of York Council is seeking an experienced project manager to join its Flood Risk Management team.

Reporting to the Flood Risk Manager you will lead an exciting Defra funded project seeking to develop innovative ways to link rural land managers and communities at flood risk through targeted flood risk modelling and the development of innovative communications tools.

You will have a working knowledge and experience of flood risk management or working with natural processes at a catchment scale, candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of project management and delivery across a number of key projects.

You will provide the day to day management and set the strategic direction for a project team of consultants, flood risk professionals, academics and a wide range of partnerships delivering environmental and biodiversity improvements across the River Ouse catchment.

This is a fixed term role until 30 March 2027.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly, only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
