As a Deaf Blind Specialist worker you will use a strength based approach to promoting the independence, interests and rights of individuals and their families; ensuring high quality services are maintained. As a Deaf Blind Specialist worker you will undertake assessments, reviews and manage long term complex cases. This will involve carrying out specialist environemental hearing assessment, assessing and ordering specialist deaf & deafblind equipment, coordinating social activities for deaf & deaf blind people, signposting and working with voluntary organisations.

For this post You must have experience of carrying out needs/specialist assessments of service users who are Deaf and Deafblind and carers. You will need to have experience and understanding of the techniques used to communicate with deaf and deafblind individuals and have Deafblind Communication Guide skills in order to communicate with Deaf/Deafblind service users in the Community. You will need to have a high understanding of and working knowledge of key equipment suitable for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing & Deaf Blind equipment and it would be desirable if you have BSL Level 2 or working towards this.
You will bring experience of working in a social care setting with adults with disabilities and/or older adults. You will recognise and promote the principles of human rights, social justice, to promote stengths, agency, hope and self determination. You will have a sound knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation. You should be skilled in understanding how to deliver a culturrally appropriate and responsive service.
Experience with working in this client group Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf Blind.
