The Role

Essex County Council is looking to recruit into a new role, the Director of Mental Health. This role will report into the newly appointed Director of ASC Essex Operations (Deputy DASS).

The main focus of this role will be to manage the Countywide Mental Health, Wellbeing and AMHP Service teams for Adult Social Care and ensure the improving performance of our service continues.

This new role will focus on performance in line with all relevant legislation, budgets, provision of care, and the EPUT Section 75 operational delegations.

Working closely with the Director of ASC Alliances and reporting to the Director of ASC Essex Operations, you'll be an advocate for mental health and wellbeing across the function, developing long-term strategies to improve capacity and operational capability.

You'll collaborate with other teams to develop the vision, future strategy and delivery models for provision of mental health and well-being services to adults in Essex.

You'll also contribute to developing the strategic focus and delivery of the integration of health and social care services with local health partners and maintain high standards of performance and practice for all mental health and well-being services to adults.

About You

We're looking for a strong, strategic leader with the skill and drive to tackle significant challenges. Educated to degree level, or equivalent by experience, you'll also bring:

  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in Social Care.
  • A clear understanding of the current political agenda.
  • A proven track record of successful strategic leadership within an organisation of comparable scope and complexity.
  • A developed understanding of the issues facing adults with mental health needs.
  • The ability to translate top-level strategy and provide direction while managing conflicting priorities.
  • Proven leadership skills and behaviours which can positively drive culture.
  • Proven communication skills with an ability to influence strategically and corporately.
  • Strong project management and commercial experience with evidence of a clear understanding of financial responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to focus on results.
  • Proven track record of using professional expertise to deliver strategic objectives.
