Competitive Salary
Closing date

Within MHCLG we have over 2000 colleagues working on policy around the UK, working at the heart of the Civil Service to design, develop and propose appropriate courses of action to help meet key government priorities and ministerial objective. Great policy making is much more than writing submissions and briefings; it is about creating a dialogue and building relationships with the public, colleagues across the Civil Service and Ministers to help arrive at the best solution, and then deliver it.

There are opportunities at Grade 7 across MHCLG in policy where successful candidates will work to develop and deliver priority policies that will have a positive impact on citizens and our communities, such as: driving reductions in rough sleeping, developing initiatives to combat climate change, or transforming the planning system. You will be expected to lead and support a team through the full spectrum of policy delivery from design to implementation. You will be responsible for monitoring, driving, and supporting the delivery of critical work, with a key focus on evidence-based decisions, strategic insight, and structured delivery. You will engage with a breadth of senior stakeholders, confident in building relationships handling challenge.

Policy colleagues in the department are friendly, hardworking, and committed. You don’t need to be a policy expert to apply, although you may well be, we’re interested in people who have the right skills and motivation to join the department. Colleagues joining policy teams are brilliantly supported to develop expertise in their subject area and find themselves quickly working on interesting and impactful subject matters. We have a wealth of formal and informal learning opportunities to help you develop your skills; we run a programme of funded policy training sessions, including advanced qualifications such as the Executive Masters in Public Policy.
