The Role

To act as an FGC Co-ordinator under the supervision of FGC Team Manager and undertake presentations of the FGC model to other professionals.

Job Purpose

To undertake FGC Co-ordinator's role.

To work closely with referring Practitioners to FGC Service.

To promote the participation of the family network in supporting children.

Key Accountabilities

  • To carry out Family Group Conferences with families and allocated social workers as practice guidance outlines.
  • To coordinate Family Group Conferences by liaising closely with the family network and preparing them for the meeting as practice guidance outlines.
  • To be aware of and to implement good social work practice, including an anti-oppressive and non-judgemental approach, working in partnership with children and families as far as is possible and treating all family members with respect and dignity.
  • To participate in monthly supervision with the Team Manager.
  • To participate in team meetings at least once every quarter.
  • To produce reports to a high standard within timescales and present these reports in a range of forums, including court.
  • To use methods of communicating directly with children and young people to promote children and young people's wishes and feelings in the FGC process.
  • To listen to family member's whilst supporting them to work together with others when there may have previously been barriers to communication. This may involve the use of therapeutic skills in assisting others to explore feelings and change their perspectives.
  • To be committed to the development of the FGC Service in each quadrant and the evaluation of its progress. As part of this, to actively seek to promote your individual development.
  • To maintain an up-to-date record of activity on electronic case files.
  • To be able to liaise confidently with people in and outside of Essex County Council to promote the FGC Services, including the voluntary sector.
  • To help develop and deliver the FGC Service with any other teams within Family Operations and any other specialisms as required.
  • To offer advice and information about services available within and outside Family Operations and act as an advocate for families where necessary.
  • To be aware of events and developments in relation to Family Group Conferencing to improve knowledge and expertise.
  • To undertake such duties as may be reasonably required by the Team Manager and to be flexible in working hours. FGC's can often occur in the evenings and at weekends.
