About the role

We are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant in this key role to lead and develop our Finance Team.

You will be part of the Finance Leadership Team and responsible for managing a team focusing on the essential elements of corporate finance.

As Chief Accountant, you will work closely with the Director of Finance and Heads of Service areas to provide clear financial advice, ensuring at all times the Council is compliant with CIPFA accounting regulations. A key part of the role will be to produce the Statement of Accounts and overseeing the Audit process.

You will review and evaluate processes and financial reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose and that we have best in class governance in place.

The Chief Accountant will lead on the design of a new ERP system. Your influence will mean that a modern system is purchased, implemented and the staff are fully trained to utilise it.

About you

We are looking for a qualified accountant (CIPFA or one of the other CCAB bodies), with experience of having led on the successful closure of accounts in the past. You will come armed with strong technical knowledge and will have previously led, trained and developed a team ensuring in the long term equally adept and capable.

To be successful in the role of Chief Accountant, you will have an aptitude for understanding and interpreting complex regulations and legislation and for innovating, challenging traditional approaches.

Finally, it will be essential that you proactively communicate with your team to solve any challenges which may arise and motivate staff to deliver to the best of their ability.
