This senior role will take an operational and strategic lead in commission placements and services for all children and young people aged 0-25, including children and young people in the care of Brent Council, care leavers and children with disabilities or special educational needs.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring effective commissioning of high quality services is undertaken in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, including children and young people and market providers.
The post holder will develop, shape and deliver an overarching programme of placement commissioning to meet the needs of children and young people, and to ensure the LA has access to sufficient and appropriate high quality placements to meet their needs.
The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring the service achieves its strategic plans by promoting an appropriate culture, empowering others and demonstrating high practice standards, for example ensuring that quality assurance and contract monitoring are effective and that commissioning activity delivers good value for money.
The ideal candidate will be a self-reflective leader who can motivate a team to continually improve performance. Candidates should either have experience of commissioning for children in a local authority or provider environment or be a qualified social worker. They will have a good knowledge of relevant legislative and statutory frameworks.
The post holder will be able to build and maintain productive working relationships with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders and will have the ability to use creativity in finding solutions to complex issues. Excellent communication skills are essential.
