About the Role
This role involves working a condensed week (37 hours per week, over 4 days).
Working to support adults, and their families, who have complex social needs and are more vulnerable as a result of disability, exclusion, or diminished capacity, you'll maximise their potential to live independently.
We'll give you the tools and resources you need to enable vulnerable adults to live healthily and independently. And, as you continue to grow your expertise, you'll play a key role in the development of our dedicated AMHP Team for Essex.
About the role
The Approved Mental Health Professional Service has a unique position in ensuring compliance with the statutory functions imposed upon the Local Authority by the Mental Health Act. The service will be responsible for composing and delivering the AMHP rota. The service will undertake statutory assessments and initial enquiries in line with statutory duties.
Senior social workers are passionate in demonstrating expert and effective practice ability in complex situations often in pressurized environments. Managing workload and supporting colleagues with complex cases, with an ability to mitigate high levels of risk. Working collaboratively with statutory and non-statutory/voluntary agencies ensuring a joined up approach.
Significant experience of social work, modelling good practice, triaging assessments, prioritizing responses, direction to others and providing expert advice and guidance is essential in this role.
- Responsible for providing supervision, specialist advice and professional expertise for AMHPs and Social Workers, contributing to the development of practice standards and the four key principles.
- Accountable for assessment of complex social care needs and provision of support for vulnerable adults to ensure they are safe and have good outcomes to promote independence.
- Accountable for working within the statutory legal framework, policy and guidance and determining when the threshold for statutory intervention has been reached in line with legislative and organisational standards within the Care Act 2015 (e.g. MCA/DoLS/CHC assessments etc). Specifically, to carry out and manage the process of MHA assessments, identifying least restrictive options and acting as an autonomous professional consistent with legal and statutory obligations.
- Responsible for managing a complex workload, maintaining accurate and timely data, reports and presentations as required.
To apply, you should be a qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration and an Approved Mental Health Professional Mental Health Act 1983 as recognised by ECC.
You'll bring significant experience, modelling good practice and providing advice and guidance in complex situations. We're also looking for your ability to mentor both newly qualified and experienced team members. As, as a subject matter expert in relevant professional practice, you should have a comprehensive understanding of current legislation, regulations and guidance.
With experience of chairing meetings involving clients, family members, carers and other multi-agency professionals, we're looking for your ability to develop strong relationships with partner agencies and the local community to provide a supportive framework for vulnerable adults.
You'll also bring:
- Evidence of continuing professional development and capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards.
- An in-depth understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages.
- The ability to make clear decisions, to highlight and limit potential risks associated with intervention.
This role involves travelling around Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings - sometimes in an emergency. A driving licence and car - or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means - is essential.
