The role

Early Years is a priority for London Borough of Camden and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a deputy head/SENCo with a proven track record to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the principals of the Camden Sure Start offer within Camden’s children’s centres/maintained nurseries. The children’s centre is the local hub for families with young children. The nursery provision with the locality is essential in supporting all children and their families in accessing a wide range of local services according to individual needs. 

The Deputy/SENCo supports the Head of Nursery in the effective day to day management and development of the nursery while having specific responsibility for undertaking the duties and responsibilities of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Responsibilities also include; the delivery of a high quality curriculum through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), site management, and the responsibility for safeguarding children’s welfare.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

You will be at least level 3 qualified, although level 6 is desirable, have a paediatric first aid certificate, have at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role and be able to demonstrate a full understanding of how to plan, implement and evaluate a high quality curriculum across a whole nursery. You will require a sound knowledge of child development, record keeping, health and safety, food safety, data protection, equality of opportunity and be able to monitor the nursery budget including multiply income streams.

You will understand how to effectively implement safeguarding procedures, work in partnership with parents and meet the needs of individual children including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
