Join us as a highways engineer for Capita RE Highways, a joint venture between Capita and London Borough of Barnet, where you'll play an important role shaping the future of our business. We're in the middle of a transformation, remobilising our services to bring in new systems and policies so we can delight both customers and local residents.

You’ll work as part of the asset management team, delivering the carriageway and footway network, drainage systems and road markings programme, including the innovative Network Recovery Programme (NRP), with the aim of improving the condition of the borough’s highways infrastructure. You’ll provide technical support in the effective and efficient promotion, design and execution of projects, schemes, investigations and analysis. We’ll support you to develop yourself and you’ll have access to our newly designed suite of enhanced training products, as well as other learning and development opportunities. We’re looking for the right person for this role, so we don’t mind where you’re located, as long as you’re able to travel into Barnet to attend on-site and client meetings when needed for various projects. What you’ll be doing:

  • designing and supervising projects, estimates, working drawings and contract documents for a wide range of highways projects
  • preparing specifications and cost estimates, issuing work requisitions, liaising with and supervising contractors and monitoring costs
  • leading on projects
  • carrying out condition surveys and site surveys and preparing reports on findings
  • ensuring scheme plans are prepared to requisite design levels and conform to technical and industry standards
  • working with contractors to ensure they deliver quality services in compliance with specifications.

What we’re looking for:

  • relevant professional work experience in Civil Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Transportation or equivalent
  • degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • good IT skills, including Autocad and Microsoft Office
  • knowledge of highways and transport policies and associated legislation
  • understanding of the design process
  • great communication and relationship building skills as well as being delivering focused.
