Job Details

Responsible for managing the street cleansing, household waste collections services and community recycling centres throughout the Bridgend County Borough Council area.

The Cleaner Streets & Waste Contract Manager role is an exciting opportunity that you will entre at a time of important change. With new upcoming environmental legislation, Welsh Government recycling targets being reviewed and contractual waste service negotiations with our provider about to commence.

In this role you will be responsible for progressing the Welsh Government’s and the Council’s strategic vision, for the service and provide leadership to all office based and operational colleagues in the team. You will be an enthusiastic leader, and keen to provide and seek service improvements for the benefit of our communities.

You will seek continuous improvement of the Council’s recycling and waste services, shaping council policy in regards to waste and environmental performance. Your will oversee a outsourced domestic waste and recycling collection contract as well as take direct responsibility for in house services such as street cleansing, education and enforcement.

You will be responsible for managing an allocated department budget, ensuring compliance with external and Council guidelines, as well as acting strategically to drive the service forward.

You will need:

  • Substantial knowledge and experience of waste and street cleansing services
  • Degree (or equivalent) qualification
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and experience of service planning and management
  • Excellent communicator, enabling you to manage performance
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIWM or be willing to work toward this
