Calderdale is a beautiful metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, at the heart of the Yorkshire Pennines. Its spectacular natural landscape, fabulously rich heritage, vibrant towns, quirky culture, tremendous architecture and thriving businesses and community spirit make it a great place to live, work and visit. It has a really exciting future, with significant regeneration investment over the next few years. Its ideal location allows for easy access via the motorway or rail into the town centre or the surrounding areas.

The distinctive character of its towns, the contrasts between its urban and rural areas, the topography and its diverse ethnic make-up all contribute to the uniqueness and strengths of the area, while presenting many of the challenges that give rise to the Council’s priorities, it is a place of diversity.

These posts are a stimulating opportunity for exceptional professionals to be at the heart of shaping the highway environment in Calderdale located in the heart of the Leeds City Region between Leeds and Manchester.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic people to join our Traffic Engineering team.

You will be working as part of a team of six carrying out traffic engineering design across a number of schemes. You will be responsible for preparing design solutions for highway safety and improvement schemes, processing Traffic Regulation, Speed Limit and Parking Places Orders ensuring that the Council complies with the requirements of current legislation. Other work will include work programming, cost estimating and reporting on scheme progress.

The team also delivers a broad range of work including other highway and engineering projects covering areas such as public realm and S38/S278 highway projects. Experience in these other areas would therefore be advantageous.

Other responsibilities will include responding to queries from Elected Members and the public, acting as the focal point for technical advice to other teams on Regulations and guidance of all types of Traffic Regulation Orders.

You will also be required to carry out site visits and produce feasibility studies including the design of signing and lining for minor traffic and parking improvement schemes recommended for progression.
