Job Details

The size and complexity of Kent, a county some 110 miles long serving 1.8m residents, is a challenging and dynamic context in which to deliver services. Yet it does not diminish our resolve to make a difference every day to our residents. Navigating the complexities and diversity of our towns and cities from deprived communities to Canterbury, one of the most visited cities in the UK, requires agility, pace and ambition.

We are proud of and committed to the diversity of our workforce. As one of two operational Directors reporting to our Corporate Director for Adult Social Care and health (DASS), you will be responsible for leading a large operational service and a significant budget.

Working closely and collaboratively with a range of partners including the NHS, care providers, public health, and the voluntary sector, you will play a significant role improving community and individual resilience. You will also be a key leader across population health improvement and ensure we put the person at the heart of all we do, focusing on what is important to them, and their families.

We are seeking an ambitious and creative Director with significant experience of working within a complex social care and health setting at a senior level. You will balance your passion for high quality operational delivery with a strategic approach and the ability to explore new agendas such as our ambitious approach to new digital and tech solutions to deliver outstanding social care and health services.

Company

In East Kent, tourism is a major industry and the attractions include world famous Canterbury and seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate. The landscape is ideal for cycling, horse riding and walking, there are many footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way. The county thrives on its reputation as the Gateway to Europe and its use as the United Kingdom's principal access to the continent through ports like Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Dartford and Sheerness is increasing rapidly. Major development has taken place on the coast and inland associated with the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One of the largest business parks in Europe is being developed jointly with American developer Rouse (Kent), and is known as Kings Hill. Kent has also traditionally been regarded as the Garden of England, deriving from the quality of its agriculture and in particular the intensive fruit, vegetable and hop production. Traditional Kentish industries like papermaking and cement manufacture are located in North and Mid-Kent, particularly along the banks of the Rivers Thames and Medway. The ease of access to neighbouring London and the lure of a decent house in pleasant surroundings have attracted many new residents from the capital.
