This is an exciting opportunity to work with the restructured AST for social workers
Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.
The AST is a multi-disciplinary team embedded in the Early Help Service that includes workers from a range of areas. The team will work with young people on the edge of care, at risk of poor outcomes and/or at risk of serious harm, enabling them to fulfil their potential and achieve positive outcomes. The service aims to maintain young people within their family network, preventing escalation of their cases to higher-level statutory services and/or preventing their entry to care, by providing intensive, evidence-based interventions, delivered at the point of crisis and beyond.
The team operates from 9.00am to 8.00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays, running on a rota basis. However, social workers will have the opportunity to work 9.00 to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday, only, if they wish.
Practice in the AST will be grounded in the principles and values of the Brent Practice Framework, and the work will feed into Brent CYP’s contextual safeguarding approach. Whole family working and Signs of Safety will be key approaches in the AST’s operation, and work will be delivered within the Early Intervention Framework.
We are looking for exceptional practice consultants , with extensive knowledge of statutory work and safeguarding to join the Accelerated Support Team (AST). The post holder will be responsible for managing multi agency staff, including social workers . You will work in partnership with colleagues in the Children and Young people department, wider council, schools, police, aligned and commissioned services as well as voluntary agencies, to ensure that the LA’s statutory duties are carried out and delivered effectively.
