The York Learning service within City of York Council has an exciting opportunity for a friendly and professional person to join them in this busy customer facing role as an Operations Administrator.

Responsibilities;

You will provide a customer information, advice and enrolment service to existing and potential learners. You will also provide administration support for curriculum managers and tutors.

This is a varied fast paced role and at times you’ll be working to tight deadlines, with conflicting pressures. You will enjoy welcoming and assisting learners and supporting tutors to deliver high quality learning provision.

Ensuring confidentiality, you will effectively engage with people at all levels on the telephone, by email, other digital platforms, and face to face.

Required Skills and Experience;

  • You will be highly proficient with recent experience in using a variety of IT applications and programmes, including but not exclusively Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Level 2 qualifications in English, Maths and IT is a minimum requirement for this role. Ideally, you will have previous further education and/or customer service experience.

An enthusiastic person, with a flexible and positive outlook, who is able to work effectively with others is key to a successful applicant for this role.

There may be an opportunity for some of the hours to be worked from home depending on the needs of the service.

16 hours per week, term-time only initially but as part of the reorganisation of the team this may change and additional hours may be available subsequently.

Successful candidates will be required to work one or two evenings a week from 17:30 to 21:30. 

The remaining hours will be daytime hours.

You will usually work at one of two adult education centres currently Huntington School and York High School but may also be required to work at other venues, depending on service needs.

There will be a requirement to work occasional Saturday mornings on a rota basis.  There is also a need to travel between centres and out-centres on occasions.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
